The Vinyl Graphics Process...
The Custom Graphics process begins with the capture or plotting of data points from a design
using proprietary CAD software (figure 1). This enables us to accurately depict or capture the
design and manipulate it at will. We can then digitally transfer the image to the cutter at any
time we choose in a format it understands.
Figure 1 (the letters are just over 1 inch high with many data points!)
The cutter receives the electronic data from our computers and converts it into mechanical
energy. It can reproduce this data as accurately as .0005 of an inch (approximately 1/100
the diameter of a human hair!) and enables us to produce continuous graphics as large as
2 X 67 feet.
The graphic is then “weeded”; that is the removal of all parts of vinyl that are not part of
the end graphic. This process takes up most of our production time. Many of our custom
graphics are extremely detailed. There are no “weeding machines” in the industry (that we
know of) so all weeding is done the old fashioned way, by hand using pin-point tweezers
and very good eyes (or glasses). (figure 2)
Figure 2 (This “Sweet Graphic” is nearly 2 feet wide!)
Once the weeding is complete, a layer of transfer tape is applied
to the graphic. This is the tape that looks much like masking tape.
Our graphics are then packaged, including a detailed application
guide, and mailed to happy customers around the globe.
